Nutrition and diet for pancreatic cancer: what foods to eat

In the entire human digestive tract, the pancreas plays the most important role. This organ produces enzymes and hormones, which are essential for processing the food that has entered the tract and for monitoring blood sugar levels.

With the development of oncological diseases in the gland, serious malfunctions begin, which causes a violation of the organ. The negative impact will affect the process of digestion and nutrition of a sick person. It is proper nutrition that plays the main role during the treatment of the disease, as well as during rehabilitation.

In case of cancerous lesions of the pancreas, regardless of the place of treatment (inpatient or outpatient), one should not forget about the rules of nutrition and strictly adhere to them.

Adequate eating behavior greatly helps to reduce the symptoms of cancer, as well as minimize the severity of side effects from therapy. Observing the diet, the patient helps the attending physician to choose the tactics of treatment of cancer.

What is important to remember in stomach cancer?

Diet for pancreatic cancer suggests that first of all, the patient needs to drink plenty of fluids. The minimum volume is 2.5 liters per day. Liquid can be absolutely any:

  • purified or mineral water without gas;
  • herbal tea;
  • weak black tea;
  • kefir;
  • milk with a minimum amount of fat;
  • fresh juices (only non-citrus).

We must not forget about the strict exclusion from the diet of fried foods and fatty foods, especially cooked in butter, all this is the diet for pancreatic cancer at the base. During treatment, it is extremely cautious to eat those products that provoke excessive gas formation and flatulence, for example, cabbage, legumes and some cereals.

Important! During the period of therapy, it is highly undesirable to use any alternative methods of treating pancreatic cancer or recipes of traditional medicine, especially without prior agreement with the doctor.

Not every medicinal plant can be compatible with medicines or therapeutic procedures. They will not only be powerless in the fight against cancer, but they can also seriously damage human health.

Yes, folk remedies for the treatment of the pancreas exist, but this does not apply to talking about cancer.

The main symptoms of cancer

The most common signs of pancreatic cancer are the following:

  • vomiting;
  • rapid weight loss and appetite;
  • inadequate taste sensations;
  • intestinal problems (constipation, upset stool).

These symptoms can be the result of the disease itself, as well as the manifestation of side effects from therapy. With proper dietary intake, not only the general condition of the patient is greatly improved, but the effectiveness of the prescribed medications also increases.

Inadequate sensory changes are manifested by sensitivity to odors and intolerance to certain foods. Such a reaction of the body can be accompanied by vomiting, weight loss and appetite.

To reduce the symptoms you need:

  1. prepare food from those products in which the flavor is poorly pronounced or absent;
  2. eat only warm or cold food;
  3. Before eating and after it thoroughly rinse the mouth with a solution of soda.

If there is a taste of metal in the mouth, then metal spoons and forks should be replaced with wooden or plastic. Some spices, such as mint, ginger or rosemary, can increase the level of taste sensitivity.

In violation of absorbability and digestion, doctors recommend a diet with the obligatory inclusion of digestive enzymes or nutritional supplements. In particularly difficult situations, your doctor will prescribe parenteral nutrition (intravenous infusions).

Pancreatic enzymes are extremely important for digestion and for this reason a change in the amount of these substances may become the cause of an incorrect digestion process. As a result, there will be a shortage of enzymes and problems with the digestive tract.

Nutrition features. What to look for?

Those patients who are undergoing a course of treatment aimed at getting rid of cancer tumors must know the composition of the food they eat, but if this is not possible, then it would be better to refuse such food.

Nutrition for pancreatic cancer is necessarily fractional every 2-3 hours, and during breaks, drink compotes without sugar or water.

Food should not be fat, but at the same time caloric and nutritional value should be quite high. Preference is better to give such products:

  • broths;
  • porridges;
  • curd casseroles;
  • natural yogurts;
  • steamed patties;
  • diet pates.

Do not forget about protein foods. It is very important in such a difficult period from a medical point of view. It can be cheese, eggs, fish and lean meat. To avoid digestive problems, it is better to reject vegetable oils, but not olive oil.

It will be good to include in the menu at least 2 servings of dishes based on vegetables, as well as 2-3 fruit dishes that need to be thermally pre-processed.

Fruit is better to choose the following:

  • sweet cherry
  • cherry
  • watermelon;
  • melon;
  • Garnet;
  • bananas;
  • apples (but only baked).

A pancreatic cancer patient should eliminate pears, grapes and plums from the diet. They promote bloating and excessive gas formation.

The approximate dose of fruits and vegetables should be at least 5 servings of 200-300 g each.

Cooking is best in the oven or boil. It is important to avoid large amounts of salt and pickled products. Also, you must carefully be with garlic, onions, spices, smoked meats.

During the period of therapy aimed at getting rid of gastric cancer, it is necessary to abandon the use of natural refined sugar. It can adversely affect the overall level of glucose in the blood of a sick person.

Each patient should remember that positive dynamics and the result of treatment will be only if the patient and the attending physician interact as closely as possible.

It is extremely important to follow all recommendations regarding dietary nutrition, and if there are any additional problems, you should immediately contact a nutritionist or a treating oncologist.
